Seasonal
Brush Pick-Up

There are two periods each year for Brush Pick-Up for all town residents outside the village.

- SPRING (1st week of May)
- FALL (1st week of Oct)

The actual dates for each Pick-up are advertised in the Sentinel and Pennysaver Newspapers. The dates may vary as other seasonal activities may runover due to weather conditions.

Residents are urged NOT to place brush along the roadways too early or after the crews have been through your area. If you have unknowingly stacked a pile along your roadway, we asked that you move the pile(s) away from the right-of -way until a few weeks prior to the scheduled pick-up. For information on Village pickup, contact the Honeoye Falls DPW @ 624-3620.

Town residents may bring brush to the Highway Department during normal business hours. This is for residents only, and No commercial disposal is allowed, regardless of source. (SIGN IN is REQUIRED for each trip)

REQUIREMENTS FOR PICK UP:

  • Tree limbs, trunks, brush only
  • Metal materials (nails, wire, etc.) will NOT be picked up
  • Maximum length…12 feet, maximum diameter…36 inches
  • 2 Truck load (10 cu. yds.) limit per address/location
  • Once the Highway Dept. passes your location, we will not return
  • Materials MUST be ready for pickup by the start date to assure pickup
  • Brush is chipped for mulch and is available for residents to pickup in the Spring at the west entrance of the Highway Department.
  • MATERIALS DEPOSITED ON ROADWAYS (including Snow)... Mendon Town Law # 136-3 Depositing snow into the highways prohibited. No person shall throw, put or place or cause to be thrown, put or placed any snow or ice into any public highway, street, public place or thoroughfare in the town... READ MORE

Mail & Newspaper Boxes
Winter Damage...

Mail and newspaper boxes placed in the right-of-way are allowed merely as a convenience to the homeowner and delivery persons. While the highway department makes every effort to avoid damaging boxes, it may at times be unavoidable due to visibility and road conditions. Most damage of this type is the direct result of snow being thrown from the plow and wing, not from direct contact by the plow and wing.

In 1999, the Mendon Town Board agreed on a policy of replacing/repairing mailboxes and posts, which are struck by plows clearing the roadways. Newspaper boxes will be repaired when possible, but will not be replaced by the Town.

Mailboxes will be repaired or replaced at no cost to the owner. Replacement items will consist only of a four-inch by four-inch pressure-treated post and crossarm, and a black aluminum mailbox. Owners wishing to make their own repairs or replacements will be reimbursed in an amount not to exceed $35.00, upon signing a release form. Requests for reimbursement must be made within 30 days of the snow event, to the Mendon Town Clerk.

The NYS Attorney's Office has rendered an opinion relevant to mailboxes placed in the road right of ways... Here to read the opinion
