Meetings The Citizens' Task Force on Deer Management
(CTF-DM) conduct open meetings and evaluate harvesting and struck location and quantity statistics in order to plan for future control initiatives. The Task Force works closely with NYS DEC officials to manage the deer population of Mendon.
DRIVERS ALERT... Anyone who drives around Mendon knows how risky it is. Deer often leap
from brush without notice causing vehicle accidents. The CTF-DM urges
drivers to take a look at the 2007 Deer Struck Location Map (pdf), take note of the high volume areasand be extra careful driving in these high risk areas.

What is Chronic Wasting Disease?
Chronic
wasting disease (CWD) is found in some deer and elk populations in
North America. CWD belongs to a family of diseases known as
transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. Although CWD is in the same
family of diseases as bovine spongiform encephalopathy in cattle, and
scrapie in sheep, it is a distinct disease that has only been found in
deer and elk. The specific cause of the disease is believed to be an
abnormal prion (protein infectious particle) that is found in the
brain, central nervous system and some lymphoid tissues of infected
animals... More
DONATE VENISON
Deer hunters’ and farmers’ harvest can be donated, processed and distributed to help feed the hungry throughout New York State. Because donated deer must be professionally processed, the Venison Donation Coalition has coordinated a program where legally tagged and properly field-dressed deer can be taken to participating processors...at no cost to the hunter or farmer...
