Honeoye Falls-Mendon Senior Citizens Club
The Honeoye Falls–Mendon Senior Citizens Club is made up of singles and couples over 59 years of age who are tax paying residents of the Village or Town, as verified by the local tax rolls. If an individual is residing in a rental unit with the real estate taxes being paid to the Village and Town, that also makes you qualified.
Our meetings are generally on the 2nd and fourth Tuesdays of each month, except November and December when the 4th Tuesday is usually in conflict with Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
The meetings are held at the Town of Mendon Falls Post 664 Community Center at 167 North Main Street, Honeoye Falls, starting at noon. We suggest people try to arrive at 11:45 to 11:50 to get signed in and socialize for a while before eating. Most of the time it is a “bring your own lunch (salad or sandwich)”. We serve coffee, tea and dessert.
Following lunch and a short business meeting to discuss future events or a program, there is a ten minute break to clear the tables for Euchre, Bingo, Dominos etc., or to allow departures for appointments, etc. In addition to these regular meetings, we take part in day trips on other days, a few of which are now being priced and scheduled.
Thursday, February 20, 2014, will be our first trip in the year to Cartwrights Maple Tree Inn in Angelica for all the Buckwheat pancakes you can eat. Reservations will be required at all day trips and functions starting next week.
On Tuesday, March 25, 2014, Katherine Lenihan will present a program entitle “Getting Started in Genealogy”.
On Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at approximately 1:15, a bus will leave the Community Center for GEVA to see “The Odd Couple”, a hilarious play which is already sold out. After the two hour performance we will return to Honeoye Falls and reconvene at Flaherty’s for dinner. Cost per person will be $40-$42, total. A reservation sheet with menu choices will be started in early April. We only have 30 tickets for this popular outing.
Also in May, on Thursday the 15th, the 1941 Historical Airplane Museum is bringing back the Manhattan Dolls. More on this performance (with a historical send-off of Whiskey 7) will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
We are working on a possible luncheon cruise on Lake Chautauqua, possibly visiting the Lucille Ball – Desi Arnaz museum in June or July.
August 12, 2014 will be the annual Chamber of Commerce sponsored Senior Picnic at Firemen’s Field on Monroe Street.
There is a lot more coming so check all of our notices in the Sentinel and also check the Village and Town websites for Senior Citizens’ activities. All seniors are always welcome at our Tuesday meetings. Come look us over anytime. For further information call Ray Milne at 624-4133.
